Manding Grooves

West African Music Connections
We feature interviews and scenes from the life of griots (jeli musicians) from Guinea, Mali, Burkina Faso, the Gambia, and Manding culture in general as they connect with global culture, particularly in France, USA and West Africa. Music features balafon, kora, Manding guitar, n'goni, and singing. Famoro Dioubate and Lisa Feder are co-founders.

In December 2022 Lisa Feder and Famoro Dioubate take a trip to his home country, Guinea, Conakry. These are the highlights from that trip.

Starting in the winter of 2025-2026, you can join Famoro and Lisa for a musical and cultural immersion in Guinea. This will be an experience in self-discovery and transformation.

Opéra Manding in the making
A little promo video of the Guinea Music All Stars, a Guinean Band based in Paris, France.
I attended their rehearsal in June 2022 at Studio Bleu in Paris. They have such great energy and the aspiration to promote Guinean griot music, which is losing value in today's economic system. This is Moh's dream to re-valorize this traditional music in a modern way! The intention is SEWA, or happiness. It works for me.

Sometimes this amazing duet, Famoro Dioubate and Kevin Nathaniel, decide to grace us with their music in public spaces around NYC. One place they love to pop up is Union Square. I caught them in April 2022.
Famoro Diouabte is a master of the balafon a traditional griot instrument from Guinea, West Africa. Kevin Nathaniel, also a tremendous, New York-based musician, accompanies him on shékéré and mbira (thumb piano).
